Particle characterization is carried out by either static or dynamic image analysis. Static image analysis is based on a microscopic evaluation, as used for instance by CAMSIZER M1 and Morphologi, in which a microscopic slide is photographed step-by-step. In this procedure, the particles remain static and, usually aligned in a defined orientation.

Static image analysis is generally used for narrow particle size distributions, focusing on the exact characterization of mostly very small particles. This method offers a high resolution and provides excellent particle images, to allow size and shape characterization with pinpoint accuracy. Static image analysis is primarily used in Research and Development.

Dynamiczna Analiza Obrazu (ISO 13322-2)

The Morphologi method is less suitable for wide distributions and routine characterization of bulk goods, powders, granules and suspensions. The method of choice for these applications is dynamic image analysis which is often used as an alternative to conventional sieve analysis.
